In a dramatic sentence it was revealed the victim's mother had called for the conviction to be quashed and for the case against Johnson and his supporters to be dropped. "This conviction will go down in history as having been the worst miscarriage of justice," her solicitor said after the judgement. Mr Justice Sweeney said prosecutors needed to give the victim at least three years to recover from the overdose that left her with brain damage, but the sentence was enough for his mother to see out her life. "She cannot be taken back again," he said. "The justice system has failed this young woman."
